Anyone who’s been through school will agree that being a student will help you find what you want to be when you “grow up.” Some find it in high school, some in college. As a college student, I did. I joined the DLSU Pops Orchestra in my first year, and there I found the joy of performing and singing onstage. I formed new and lasting friendships, and learned how to be a better singer, a better team player, and a better person. Since I graduated, I have had the privilege of performing with Pops once in a while as part of the alumni.
This coming March 24, 2012, I am once again honored to be invited as a guest performer in “Eliezer: The Maestro” - a concert celebration for the man-behind-it-all - Maestro Eliezer San Felipe, or as we all fondly call him - Sir Eli. In his 25 years in DLSU as maestro, he has mentored hundreds of musicians and music lovers who were part of our group (evolving from the DLSU Concert Band, to DLSU Pops Orchestra, and now The Lasallian Youth Orchestra). He is our tatay, kuya and kabarkada, and under his baton, we all made ourselves heard through music, and some of us (like me) found our true calling in music.
Since I love Sir Eli and DLSU Pops Orchestra so much, I am giving away 2 tickets each to 5 winners who has the best answer to this question: “Name the one person you met in school who inspired you the most and why?” It can be a teacher, a classmate, or anyone in your school. This is open to all people here in Metro Manila or nearby provinces, basta pwede makapunta sa concert sa DLSU. You can be a student now or kahit graduate na. Send your answers through: Twitter - @PrincessVelasco or Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/PrincessVelascoOfficial or Email - firstname.lastname@example.org or reply here on Tumblr. Deadline of entries is March 21, 2012, Wednesday.
