I have always been fond of compilation albums since they usually contain very good selections of songs of a particular genre or theme. Last 2011, I was part of the first “Tunog Natin” OPM compilation album, where I sang a duet version of the song “Kanlungan” with Myrus. So when I was asked to be part of the “Tunog Natin: Songs from Home” Second Edition, I immediately said yes. I was so happy because they chose one of my favorite OPM songs for me to sing – “With A Smile” by Eraserheads.
I recorded in the studio last August, only two months after I gave birth to Kobe. I couldn’t help but get teary-eyed while singing, especially this part of the song:
Lift your head, baby don’t be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You’ll get by with a smile
You can’t win at everything but you can try
What they say is true: when you become a parent, you can experience a whole new plethora of emotions. And this song will now be forever etched in my heart. 🙂
This album will evoke emotions like this and more, as it is aptly sub-titled “Songs from Home.” The songs included in the album will surely remind you of memories such as your first crush, your first fight with a friend, your first bath in the rain, etc. These are the songs that you (or your parents) listened to, rendered in a new sound by seasoned and new OPM artists.
Here is the track list:
- Tuloy Pa Rin Ako by Jim Paredes and Bloomfields
- Next In Line by Davey Langit
- Tuwing Umuulan by Moira Dela Torre
- Hawak Kamay by Thor Dulay
- Kaleidoscope World by Markki Stroem
- With A Smile by Princess Velasco
- Home is Here by Johnoy Danao
- Pinoy Ako by Jason Fernandez
- Cool Ka Lang by Jaq Dionisio
- Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika by All Artists
Both “Tunog Natin” compilation albums were produced by Avida Land. Avida’s Marketing Head Ms. Tessa Tatco says that it has always been their advocacy to enrich Filipino culture especially through OPM music. In this day and age where it is sometimes considered “financially risky” to produce an album, it is indeed very admirable for Avida to launch a second edition to their successful “Tunog Natin” volume one. And I am very honored to be chosen again for the second edition.
I was invited to grace the album launch at the Avida Showroom in Makati last Oct 13. I was able to chat with the album’s music producer Jonathan Ong, project manager Chris Cahilig, and one of the album’s artists and creative consultant Jim Paredes. Johnoy Danao, who sang Avida’s theme song “Home” also performed live during the press luncheon.
The following day was the first Tunog Natin 2 concert and Avida’s 25th Year celebration at Bonifacio Global City. I was also one of the performers, along with Jim Paredes, Johnoy Danao, The Bloomfields, and their “surprise guest” which turned out to be Bamboo!
Here are some pictures from the concert:
